Before entering teaching I completed a Civil Engineering degree at Imperial College, becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer and working in industry for 16 years.

I have been teaching since 2001.  Whilst in teaching I have been Head of Maths Departments for over ten years, tutoring for 13 years, and I have always taught up to A-level Further Maths, and supported students preparing for University entrance exams. Most recently  at a successful Sixth Form College (for 7 years).  I have always attended conferences and courses to keep up to date, and have experience of being an examiner.  

I currently manage a team of maths specialists who deliver training, support and advice to teachers across the South and South West of England.

As an Engineer my work included;

• Designing a reservoir (40 Million litres!),

• Managing multi-million-pound contracts,

• Managing a Control Centre which supplied water to three million people (in London),

• Spending time working down sewers; surveying. 

• Responsibility for the safety of London's large open reservoirs (if you get the chance to look out of the window of an aircraft flying out of Heathrow you can look down and see some of these).

All this time I worked together with lots of other people, often managing them, and helping multi-disciplinary teams to think things through and overcome problems.

I started to provide a facilitation service to a wide range of organisations and it was then that I realised I wanted to move into teaching.

I indulge in a range of activities including gym classes, sky-diving and jogging.  I recently took part in an ultra-marathon (over two days), I've been trying to learn to surf for two years, and I'd love to have another go at wing walking.
